The Dial-Spike (Graduation) Ceremony of National Taiwan University College of Public Health (NTUCPH) in 2018 academic year was held in May 31st, 2019, with several teachers, graduates and their family and friends attending the ceremony in a blistering afternoon. Sincere wishes from every participant were the hope for graduates to spare no effort to walk to the next life stage.
The ceremony was opened through the speech given by Dean Chang-Chuan Chan. Dean Chan mentioned that the graduates not only receive the degree provided by the NTUCPH but also get the only public health degree which accredited by the CEPH in Asia. Dean Chan also wished the graduates keep the knowledge, value, and belief to fight for human’s health, sustainable development of the earth, and social justice.
Taking this opportunity, Dean Chan also expressed gratitude to the alumni for their donation to our college. Due to their consideration, the toilet in the first and second floor of the Public Health Building could be improved and provide a better environment for the student.

The main section of this ceremony was the Dial-Spike ceremony. The directors of each institute and department called the graduate’s name in order, and the graduates stepped onto the stage one by one, for the advisors or the directors turning the tassel. This process represented the achievement of graduates and also best wishes from teachers.
Apart from the dial-spike, the representative of the graduates expressed the gratitude to teachers for their teaching. The undergraduate student Yun-Chung Hsiao from the Department of Public Health (DPH) mentioned his experience of understanding the different form of success. He said that public health is a marvelous field, for students to learn how to solve the problem with scientific evidence and humanism. DPH also provided a powerful backing for students to make professional knowledge into real practice.
The master student, Tsai-Chu Ho from the Institute of Environmental Health, mentioned that the core value of public health is “human,” from the living environment, the relationship and interaction between people, to the decision and thought, the value and concept of public health have companied everyone since we were born. She said that graduation is a shortstop in our lives, even there would be some difficulties in the future, the original intention for entering the field of public health and the achievement we gained would support us to continue exploring the world, dedicating for human, believing and pursuing.
At the end of the ceremony, the undergraduate student Yi-Hsuan Lin from the DPH led to read the oath of public health spirit. All the graduates and teachers bid farewell to each other and took the photos, ending the Dial-Spike Ceremony. Congratulations and best wishes for all the graduates!
